California’s Climate Regulations

KQED Radio (NPR) - Forum San Francisco area, San Francisco area, CA, United States

As President Obama sells his climate agenda to the nation, state legislators in California are set to vote on a package of bills that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut petroleum use in half. Gov. Jerry Brown and many high-profile state Democrats say California needs to take the lead on mitigating climate change. Opponents of the new regulations, including industry groups and state Republicans, say the strict regulations go beyond leading and put California at risk.

Yale University — Energy System Analysis Speaker Series

Burke Auditorium Kroon Hall, Yale University, New Haven, CT, United States

To make the needed pathways for decarbonization both intellectually sound and operational, we have developed analytic tools to explore the cost, reliability, and technology integration for a diverse suite of regional energy systems (western North America, China, Chile, Nicaragua, the East African Power Pool and the Balkans). We use these models - SWITCH (rael.berkeley.edu) - to explore the costs and benefits of meeting decarbonization targets. We find that for both on-grid and off-grid energy needs, robust pathways can be developed to meet energy and environmental goals.
